Spicy Foods for Summer
A cloudless summer day. It's hot. Really hot. The sun beats down mercilessly on everything and you can't even find a shadow. The perfect time for a refreshment! Here are a few summer refreshments to help you escape the summer sun.
Thai iced tea
You need:
1 ½ liters of water
60 g black tea
125 g sugar
375 ml milk
Star anise (to taste)
Tamarind (to taste)
Cardamom (to taste)
Cloves (to taste)
Ice as needed
Pour the boiling water over all the spices and the tea and leave for five minutes. Then remove the tea leaves. Stir in the sugar. Add the milk and stir. Let the tea mixture to cool for at least 20 minutes. Fill glasses with ice and the tea.
Punch (non-alcoholic)
You need:
750 ml white grape juice
250 ml mineral water
250 g melon
150 g cherries
2 kiwis
2 teaspoons chilli powder
2 teaspoons ground ginger
Cut the fruit into small pieces, pour in the grape juice and mineral water and season with chili and ginger.
Citrus-mint Syrup
You need:
5 organic lemons
4 limes
50g ginger, sliced
7 green cardamom pods
1 bunch mint
500 g sugar
500 ml of water
Wash the citrus in hot water, then peel. Squeeze the citrus and pour the juice into a pot. Peel the ginger and cut into thin slices. Press the cardamom pods until the grains become detached from the shells. Bring all ingredients except the mint to boil in a pot. Then add the mint and everything cook for one minute. Remove pot from the heat and let cool. Pour everything through a fine sieve and bring to a boil again. Cook for ten minutes and pour into sterilized bottles. Seal well, turn the bottles upside down and leave to cool.
The syrup keeps for several weeks and is a wonderful refreshment with water or mineral water on hot summer days.
Spiced Ice Tea
You need:
4 bags of black tea
Lemon juice of three lemons
1 lemon, sliced
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 stick cinnamon
4 cloves
150 g sugar
1.5 liters of water
Ice as needed
Bring water to a boil. Add the tea bags, cinnamon, cloves and ginger into the pot of boiling water and let sit for eight minutes. Strain through a sieve, drain and cool. Add lemon slices and season with sugar and lemon juice.
Nimbu Pani - Indian Lemonade
You need:
1 liter of water
50 ml lime juice
10 mint leaves
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon sugar
1 Pinch Of Salt
Ice as needed
Mix all ingredients and leave for an hour in the refrigerator. Serve in a glass.
