The "Mostviertel" cider region is located in south-western Lower Austria and became very popular in the 1990s. Dedicated cider producers planted new orchards, modernised the press technology and founded a "cider gallery" in the Ardagger Abbey. Around 300 different types of pears grow in the Mostviertel region. Most pear ciders are made from single-variety pears.
